Louise Wheeler

1920 -2014 PITTSFIELD There is a celebration in heaven. Louise Bates Wheeler, 94, of Wallingford, Conn., went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, July 26, 2014 in Pittsfield. She was the beloved wife of the late William Wheeler. She was born in Norwich, Conn., on March 22, 1920, a daughter of Walter and Olive Whitehouse Bates. She met her husband, Bill, at Epworth League at the First United Methodist Church of Wallingford where she became the organist and choir director. She served the church in that capacity for 68 years. She was President of the UMW, a member of the Susannah's, organized church events and served countless church dinners. She was a member of the Boys Scouts of America and was a cook at a Boy Scout Camp for 22 summers. She worked as a manager at Simpson School cafeteria and taught piano in her home for 50 years. She is survived by her children, Corrine Weaver and her husband, Dennis of Pittsfield, Trudi Schott and her husband, Allen of Meriden, Conn., and David Wheeler and his wife Christine of Meriden; her grandchildren, Peter Schott, Mindy Carter, Jeanne Anastasio, Michael, Steven and Kevin Wheeler, Beth Devine, and Sarah and Ruth Weaver; her great-grandchildren, Eliana and Amarissa Schott, Emily and Katie Anastasio, Dylan, Derek, Madelyn and Sophia Wheeler, Jack and Zander Rushford, Jonathan Devine, Megan and Carrie Carter and baby Wheeler expected in October. Louise was predeceased by her daughter, Celaine Sullivan Avila, and by her brothers, Donald and Vaughn Bates. FUNERAL NOTICE: Her family will receive relatives and friends in THE WALLINGFORD FUNERAL HOME, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Conn., on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the First United Methodist church of Wallingford.
