Clara Mary Massetti

1915 - 2014 PITTSFIELD It is with great sadness and sorrow that Clara Mary Massetti had passed onto God last Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Clara was a loving, caring mother who always put family and friends first. Clara was born on Jan. 7, 1925, in Hudson, N.Y., the daughter of Nicola and Carolina Centoconti. Clara lived in Pittsfield most of her life. She and her husband went to Daytona Beach, Fla., for the winter since 1984 and then moved to Daytona permanently in 2009. Clara attended local schools in Hudson, N.Y., before taking a job at a local pocketbook factory, and, following her marriage in 1945, Clara filled a number of positions in Pittsfield (Rice Silk Mill factory, Big N, and Berkshire County Savings Bank) along with many volunteer activities. She was a skilled meal preparer and baker who loved to feed and cook for her family. Sunday gatherings for dinner were a common ritual for her along with countless holidays of dinner preparations. Clara's favorite dishes were making homemade macaroni, sauce, and biscotti. Clara's other passion was gardening, planting flowers, herbs and vegetables. In her later years, she enjoyed watching the food networks, reading, and listening to a variety of music, some of her favorites were Andre Bocelli, Pavarotti, and Celine Dion. She also enjoyed taking her evening walks. She is survived by her husband, the "love of her life," Pasquale A. Massetti, whom she would have celebrated 70 years of marriage in February 2015. Clara is also survived by her sons, Thomas D. Massetti of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Robert J. Massetti and his wife, Mary Jane, of Port Orange, Fla., and granddaughter, Lisa Marie Massetti of Ormond Beach, Fla. Other very close family members include a niece, Maureen McNamara and her husband, Lonnie McCabe of Altamont, N.Y.; nephew, James N. McNamara and his wife, Susan, of Hudson, N.Y.; and her great-niece, Tara McNamara; and great nephew, Devin McNamara. She was a loving mother to all of them. Along with her deceased parents, she was preceded by, and will join, her beloved sister, Catherine (deceased 1957) and Americo (deceased 2008) in eternal peace and tranquility. She will be sorely missed by all who had the distinct pleasure of meeting this beautiful human being who touched so many lives. Clara was truly a selfless person who shied away from attention and always put others first. FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside services for Clara Mary Massetti will be held Thursday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m., at St. Joseph's Cemetery with the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor of St. Charles Church, officiating. Those attending are invited to meet inside the Cemetery gate at 10:45. All friends are welcome to attend. There will be no calling hours.
