Frederick Adams Jr.
1927 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Frederick Romine Adams Jr., 86, of 129 Partridge Road, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at Hillcrest Commons surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Pittsfield on November 27, 1927, the son of Frederick R. Adams, Sr., and Jennie C. Donahue Adams, he grew up in Pittsfield and attended local schools. He served in the United States Army as a Private First Class stationed in Norfolk, Va., from 1944-1946. He was a 6th direct descendent of the Patriot, Samuel Adams. He retired as a welder /inspector in Power Transformer from General Electric after 43 years of service. He was a member of the General Electric Quarter Century and Pensioners Clubs and the General Electric Athletic Association, as well as a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Elks Club. Fred enjoyed a great love of gardening. He was an expert at archery and an avid hunter. He was a master at dancing and could transform any woman into Ginger Rodgers. He married Beverly Vincent in Elkton, Maryland, Aug. 16, 1946. Together they raised five children: two sons; Frederick R. Adams, III and his wife, Debi of St. Petersburg, Fla., John V. Adams and his wife, Deana of Pittsfield; two daughters, Gail C. Broyles of Pittsfield, and Christine A. DiCicco and her husband, Larry of Zephyrhills, Fla.; a sister, Virginia M. Florczyk of Pittsfield; as well as nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and four great great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Jennifer R. Adams, who died July 16, 1972. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone at Hillcrest Commons, for all the years of their dedicated care and also to Hospice Care of the Berkshires, for making Fred's last weeks dignified and comfortable. FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours for Frederick R. Adams, Jr., will be held Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Pittsfield Cemetery with the Pastor Steve Buchauerof Morningside Baptist Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Fred's name to Hospice Care in The Berkshires, in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield
