Faith Gazzaniga Obituary
Faith Mary Gazzaniga

1922 - 2014 NORTH ADAMS Faith Mary Gazzaniga passed away August 8, 2014, after having lived 91 full years. She was born on Aug. 21, 1922, in Albany, N.Y. After attending Goucher College in Towson, Md., she ultimately graduated with a B.A. degree from the College of St. Rose in Albany in 1945. She was awarded a fellowship from the American Red Cross to Fordham University and graduated with a M.S. degree in social work in 1949. During her time at Fordham, she served in the Red Cross as a hospital social worker at Ft. Monmouth, N.J., and at Mitchel Field, Long Island, N.Y., where she met and married Air Force officer Louis A. Gazzaniga on August 7, 1948. Faith did volunteer work with the Red Cross, Girl and Boy Scouts of America, and was active in the PTA and local Garden Clubs. Faith worked as a social worker, ending up as the director of social service for the North Adams Regional Hospital in Mass. During her tenure as a social worker, Faith was a member of the National Association of Social Workers and was active at a state, regional, and city level as a representative for the elderly. Faith was a faithful military wife and was involved throughout Louis' service with the wives' clubs at their various postings. Faith's extracurricular activities continued with her husband's retirement, first in North Adams, then to their final home in San Antonio, Texas. Faith always had an interest in the arts, whether it be in music, the stage, literature, or the visual arts, the last manifesting itself in her becoming an amateur painter working in oils, water colors, and pastels. Faith is survived by her daughter, Louise, and her husband, Douglas; son, John; grandchildren, Rebecca, Suzanne, and Michael; and great-grandchildren, James Anthony, Sarah Eleanor, and Peter Scott. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Margaret; her husband, Col. Louis A. Gazzaniga; and her daughter, Jane Teresa Gazzaniga, who passed away earlier in 2014. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Memorial Service will be held on her birthday, Thursday, Aug. 21, at 10 a.m. in the High Flight Chapel at Air Force Village II, San Antonio. A reception will follow at 11 a.m. in the Roadrunner Lounge. Her interment will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery where she will join her husband and daughter.
