Norman "Jerry" Hart

1940-2010 PITTSFIELD Norman "Jerry" Hart, 69, of Colchester, Vt. passed away peacefully on January 1st, 2010 at his home surrounded by loving family.

Jerry was born on Sept. 27, 1940 to Norman and Lillian Hart in Pittsfield. After attending Lenox High School, he followed his father into the elevator trade and started working for Bay State Elevator Co. out of Pittsfield. He married his high school sweetheart, Ann Evans, on September 9th, 1961. In 1967, Jerry moved his family to Colchester to head up operations for Bay State Elevator in Vermont. Jerry was known for his hard work and dedication to both the company and his clients and was well liked by all who had the pleasure to work with him in the industry. He and his wife, Ann, also were proprietors of the J & A Village Market in Colchester village for five years. He retired in 2005 as VP and Superintendent of Bay State Elevator having put in close to 50 years with the company.

When looking to relax, he spent time biking, working on tractors, baling hay, or puttering in his garage.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Ann; by his three children, Kathleen Hart of Redway, Calif., Joseph Hart and his wife, Donna, of Colchester, and Patty Ahonen and her husband, Tim, of Colchester; and by his three grandchildren, Travis, Danielle, and John who lovingly referred to him as "Pop". He is also survived by his mother, Lillian Hart, of Lenox, ; two brothers, Kenneth Hart and his wife, Sally, amd Roger Hart and his wife, Sandy, and by his sister Joyce Horgan. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and will be missed by all.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Michael Johnson for his dedication and support in caring for Jerry throughout his battle with Glioblastoma.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial reception in Celebration of Jerry's life is planned for Sat., Jan. 9th from 1 to 4 p.m. at The Essex in Essex, Vt. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Sat., Jan. 9th at Our Lady of Grace in Colchester, Vt.
