Richard Boyd Winslow DALTON Richard Boyd Winslow, 80, of 18 Burr Drive, Dalton, died Saturday, August 14, at his home. Born in Nashua, N.H., son of Rupert A. and Edna Hunt Winslow, he was educated in Nashua schools and was a 1947 graduate of Nashua Senior High School. He was also a graduate of the Industrial Training Institute in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Winslow enlisted with the United States Navy on July 9, 1947, and served aboard the U.S.S. Philippine Sea. He visited the Mediterranean and Guantanamo, Cuba. He received the Navy Occupation Service Medal. He earned the rank of Teleman Third Class and was honorably discharged on April 20, 1950. In 1951, Mr. Winslow went to work for General Electric Company where he was an Engineering Aide in the Naval Systems Ordnance Division. He traveled throughout the United States with General Electric. He retired in 1991 with 40 years service. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Cheshire. Mr. Winslow was a longtime and devoted member of the Dalton Lions Club. He served as past president and produced the Dalton Lions newsletter. He was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award from Lions International. He was also a member of the General Electric Quarter Century and Pensioners Clubs. He enjoyed scrabble, puzzles, and camping. Mr. Winslow leaves his wife, the former Marjorie B. Wilcox, whom he married March 17, 1951, in Nashua, N.H. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Arthur D. Winslow of Kalamazoo, Michigan, George D. Winslow and his wife, Kathy, of Greenfield, and Howard P. Winslow and his wife, Martha, of Newington, Connecticut; a daughter, Paula C. Moone and her husband, David, of Dalton; a sister, Marian Nutting, of New Hampshire; and eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was also pre-deceased by a sister, Phyllis Hilton. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Richard Boyd Winslow will be Friday, August 20, at 1 p.m., at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton with the Rev. Warren Scamman, Pastor of the United Methodist Church of Cheshire, officiating. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Winslow may be made to the Dalton Lions Club or to the Dalton Ambulance and Rescue both in care of the Dery-Foley Funeral Home, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.
