Obituary Condolences

Mary C. Chisholm LEE Mary Chisholm died peacefully in her home at 255 Fairview St in Lee, leaving friends, and family throughout New England and the Canadian Maritimes remembering her strength, generosity, and goodness. Born Mary Cunningham in Stellarton Nova Scotia, she attended Mount Saint Vincent College, the only independent women's college in the British Commonwealth at the time. She married Captain Malcolm James Chisholm M.D. of the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps on Oct. 6, 1941. Upon his return from WWII, they settled in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, where she administered the infirmary dispensary, and had five of her six children. In Dec. 1954, they moved to Amherst, Mass. She drove on her own the thousand miles through a winter storm with four children to rejoin Malcolm who had joined the staff as physician at the University of Massachusetts. They settled in Amherst where she administered Malcolm's private practice, and they had their sixth child and raised their family. Mary and her husband moved to Lee in 1991. Mary is predeceased by her brothers Colin and George, her sister Elizabeth Bonnell, her husband Malcolm and her daughter Mary Elizabeth. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Attorney Malcolm and Jonnie Chisholm of Lee, Dr. Jane Chisholm of Moodus Conn., Dr. Carolyn and Richard Slocombe of Limington Maine, Dr. Helen Chisholm and husband Kelly McQuoid of North Granby Conn., and Captain John and Margaret Chisholm of Fort Worth Texas, and Pittsfield, Maine, and also by her wonderful grandchildren: Abraham, Rebecca, and Richard Crapo; Russell, John Scott and Ian Chisholm; and Colin and Kelsie Chisholm. FUNERAL NOTICE: Visiting hours will be Thursday from 4-7 at the Kelly Funeral Home in Lee. Friends wishing may make donations to St. Mary's Playground (in care of the Kelly Funeral Home 3 Main St. Lee, MA 01238), or the Family Outreach of Amherst (401 Main St, Amherst MA 01002). Anyone wishing may leave a message of condolence for the family at www.kellyfuneralhome.net. The funeral of Mrs. Chisholm will be held Friday Jan. 28th with a liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Mary's Church with the Rev. Mark D. Glover Parochial Vicar of St. Mary's Church. Burial will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery in Hadley.
