Donald M. Hager 1919-2011 LENOX Donald M. Hager, 91, of Kimball Farms, died Sunday at his home surrounded by Hospice, helpers, and his loving wife and daughter. Born on June 12, 1919, in Cambridge, Mass., he was the first son of Clayton Marden Hager and Helen Haskell Hager. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1937 and went on to attend Bowdoin College for one year before graduating with honors from Tufts University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. His work life was centered in the dairy industry, continuing the tradition of his grandfather in the milk business and his father in the ice cream business. He also worked in the refrigeration field, and retired as the general manager of Worcester Cold Storage. He entered the US Navy in 1944 and served on LSTs 961 and 708 on the Pacific. Mr. Hager married his wife, the former Norma Hayward in 1941. He was a communicant of St. Ann's Church in Lenox and enjoyed sailing off the coast of Fairhaven, MA in the boat that he owned for several years. Mr. Hager lived in Hardwick, MA for 27 years prior to moving to Kimball Farms in September of 2001. Besides his wife of Lenox, he is survived by their nine children, Virginia Brooks, Natalie Walker of Berlin, Mass., Nancy Pickard of Johnstown, N.Y., Christine Hager of Troy, Vt., John Hager of Weare, N.H., Alison LaCourse of Dexter, Maine, Richard Hager of Jacksonville, Ore., Sarah Johnston of Farmington, Conn., and Mark Hager of Petersham, Mass.; 17 grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and four great great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister Virginia Peppard and brother John Hager. FUNERAL NOTICE: A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Ann's Church in Lenox at a date and time to be announced.
