William "Bill" O'Donnell 1923 - 2012 PITTSFIELD William "Bill" Henry O'Donnell, 88, formerly of Colonial Gardens, Pittsfield, died Thursday, March 1, 2012, at Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility. Born in Stockbridge on Oct. 4, 1923, son of William H. O'Donnell and Bessie Billings O'Donnell, he was educated in Stockbridge schools and attended Williams High School in Stockbridge. A World War II veteran, Mr. O'Donnell was inducted into the Army on March 16, 1943, and served in The Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. He received distinction as a sharpshooter, expert in rifle, and second class gunner. He was discharged on Jan. 9, 1946, with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Mr. O'Donnell was employed as a route salesman with Sealtest Ice Cream for many years. He was a communicant of St. Mark Church. At the age of 15, Mr. O'Donnell became an accomplished drummer and played with many area bands in Berkshire County. For many years, he had his own band known as the Fabulous Hi-Fi's. He was a member of Musicians Local 109 and served as its president from the late 1970s to the 1990s. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. O'Donnell leaves his wife, the former Brunina T. "Bunny" Pisani, whom he married June 29, 1946, in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Teresa E. Boland and her husband, Jim, Barbara O'Donnell Fleischmann and her husband, Barry, and Kathleen O'Donnell Valenti and her husband, Gary, all of Pittsfield; five grandchildren, Jay Boland and his wife, Donna, Kim Boland, Seth Fleischmann and his wife, Renee, and Joshua Fleischmann and Heather Eliason, Christopher Valenti, and longtime friend, Amanda Beckwith, and three great-grandchildren, Cameron Taylor-Boland, Maxwell Boland, and Lila Boland, as well as two brothers-in-law, Ralph Pisani and Albert "Butch" Pisani, several nieces and nephews, and the staff and friends at Mount Greylock Extended Care. He was predeceased by a brother, Maurice O'Donnell and by a sister, Lila Murphy. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for William "Bill" Henry O'Donnell will be held Monday, March 5, at 9:45 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., at St. Mark Church celebrated by the Rev. John C. Salatino, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. O'Donnell may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires or to Mount Greylock Extended Care Residents Activity Fund in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA.
