Katherine Ann Mullins 1926-2012 DALTON Mrs. Katherine Ann Mullins, 85, of 308 Grange Hall Road in Dalton passed away on Wednesday, April 4th at Bay State Medical Center in Springfield. She was surrounded by her loving family as she slipped peacefully into eternal rest. A longtime resident of Dalton, she was born on December 15, 1926 in Malden, Mass., the daughter of the late William and Johanna O'Brien Bairstow. She was a communicant of St. Agnes Church where she was also a member of the Rosary Society. She thoroughly enjoyed watching and rooting for the Red Sox, the Celtics and Tiger Woods. She and her husband Dick Mullins enjoyed a full and active retirement taking trips on cruises, traveling to visit children and grandchildren and playing Scrabble and Dominos on long afternoons. Katherine provided a wonderful, loving life for her husband, children and grandchildren. She loved life and people and was kind to everyone she encountered. For years, the family home was along the Appalachian Trail and she would always invite and feed passing hikers. She enjoyed traveling, swimming, camping, listening to her husband play piano and visiting with family and friends. She was a wonderful cook and gardener and loved horses, especially her childhood horse "Rusty" of which she spoke often. She served as a volunteer for Elder Services for many years, visiting the nursing home and sharing her love with the elderly and infirmed. She leaves her husband; Richard F. Mullins Sr. of Dalton whom she married on January 20, 1952 in Dorchester, Mass. They had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in January. Three sons; Richard F. Mullins Jr. of Chicopee, Mass., James S. Mullins and his wife Margerie of Durango, Colorado and Robert J. Mullins of Dalton. Three daughters; Kathleen M. Mullins and her husband Bernie Boissonneault of Chicopee, Melissa D. Mullins of Northampton, Mass., and Joanne E. Coriaty and her husband Philip of Brockton, Mass. She also leaves her brother, James Bairstow of Stoughton, Mass. Eight grandchildren; Kristina and Philip Coriaty, Luke and Trevor Dyson, Lisa and Wendy Mullins and Danielle and Douglas Marco. She was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters. She was educated in Malden, Mass., and Texas schools and was a 1945 graduate of Comfort High School in Comfort, Texas. She also attended Berkshire Business College. Mrs. Mullins utilized her business degree to work at the former First Agricultural Bank in Pittsfield and at the former Eaton Paper Company. She had also worked with her son who owned and operated the Dalton Depot for many years and as a teacher's aide for the Central Berkshire Regional School District. She retired in 1990. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Katherine A. Mullins, 85, of Dalton will be held Monday, April 16, 2012 with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Church in Dalton celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations in memory of Katherine may be made to St. Agnes Church or to the Music Fund at the Dalton United Methodist Church both in care of the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 Main St. Dalton, MA 01226 which is in charge of arrangements.
