Stanley J. Soja 1932-2012 Stanley J. Soja, 79, of Glenville, passed away peacefully May 16, 2012, a day shy of his eightieth birthday. Born May 17, 1932 in Adams, he was the son of the late John and Anna Kuna Soja. Stan was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He then went on to receive his MS from Union College. He served in the Army from '54-'56,receiving the Good Conduct and National Defense Medals. He married the former Evelyn J. Scieniewski from Pittsfield, on June 27, 1959. Mr. Soja was on the G.E. Manufacturing Training Program and the family moved to Schenectady area in 1963. Stanley worked at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory as an engineer until retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Glenville. Throughout his life Stanley was involved in various clubs and organizations including St. Helen's School/Church, Niskayuna Babe Ruth and the Elfun Society. He loved to play golf with his friends and was a member of the KAPL Retirees Golf League. For the past 20 years he and Evelyn enjoyed their winter home in Port Richey, Fla. Stan enjoyed playing bridge with his wife and friends.He had a passion for vegetable gardening and spending the holidays and other special occasions with the family. He was most happy spending time with his grandchildren. The Soja family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Ellis Hospital, 4th floor A Wing, for their care and support. Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Evelyn Soja, sons, Gregory (Valerie) Soja of Simsbury, Conn., Michael (Mary) Soja of Schodack and daughter, Karen (John) Briare of Dudley, Mass.; his ten cherished grandchildren, Rebecca and Jessica, Christopher, Peter and Sarah Soja; Shannon and Lee Soja and Anna, Jenna and Robert Briare. Stanley leaves behind his three sisters, Helen, Irene and Stephanie Soja, all of Adams. Survivors also include his sister-in-law Jean Bellora of Adams, and nephews Robert and Steven Bellora. FUNERAL NOITCE: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday May 19 at 9 a.m. at the Church of Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Rd. Glenville with Rev. Jerome Gingras officiating. Calling hours will be held this evening (May 18) at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Burial will be on Saturday with committal services at 1 p.m. at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Adams, MA. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to either the church or to Ellis Hospital Foundation, 1101 Nott St. Schenectady, NY 12308.
