DALTON Thomas S. Szczepaniak, 46, of Dalton, died Thursday, August 2, 2012, at Berkshire Medical Center.
He was born in Pittsfield on April 28, 1966. He is survived by his father, Joseph Szczepaniak Jr., and his mothers, Amy Szczepaniak and Carol Szczepaniak. He attended Lanesborough Elementary School and graduated from Mt. Greylock Regional High School.
Tom was the owner of Variety Trucking and Demolition and was happy to be called, "Dr. Demo". He often reached out to individuals from Barton's Crossing and Soldier On to offer the opportunity for personal growth. He was a select board member for the Town of Dalton for nine years and had served as the president of the Berkshire County Selectman Association. He took pride in serving the people of Dalton and served on the Solid Waste Committee, Conservation Commission, was chairman of the Senior Center Building Committee and volunteered at the CRA and CBRSD. He could always be seen keeping Dalton's sidewalks clean after a winter storm. Tom was very active in Alcoholics Anonymous.
In keeping with the name of his business, he had a variety of interests. He enjoyed snowmobiling and had been enjoying the sport with his son, Joey, since he was the age of four. He was a soccer coach for the Dalton CRA Travel League and assisted with T-Ball. He could be found "crabbing" on any given Tuesday night with his best friend, Dave, watching "The Deadliest Catch". He was fortunate to have met Captain Sig. His newest hobby was a rediscovered love for motorcycles. He was only happy with the loudest and fastest. His Harley Davidson motorcycles were legendary. He had recently given his three year old nephew, Joseph, his first ride. He traveled to Sturgis, South Dakota last year for Bike Week and had looked forward to a return trip this August. On quiet evenings he loved to sit and watch the hummingbirds at his feeders and claimed he had a secret recipe for the nectar. He shared his love of birds with his father. He enjoyed golfing and was a member at Wahconah Country Club.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa, and their son, Joseph Scott Szczepaniak.
He is also survived by his daughter, Krystal Szczepaniak, and his granddaughter, Makaylah Conrado.
He is also survived by his grandmother, Gloria Rolland.
He is also survived by three brothers, Timothy Szczepaniak and his wife, Lori, Robert Szczepaniak and his wife, Laura, Joseph Szczepaniak III and his wife, Angela; and his sister, Jodi Szczepaniak-Locke and her husband, Richard; and several nieces and nephews.
