Donald E. Fenn

1928 - 2012 HOUSATONIC Donald E. Fenn, 83, of Housatonic, died peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at Berkshire Medical Center.

He was born in Pittsfield on Dec. 28, 1928, to Harold and Sylvia (Van DeBogert) Fenn, and grew up on the family farm in South Lee. He graduated from Lee High School in 1947.

From 1951 to 1952, he served with the Army during the Korean War, and was a sergeant in charge of his company's motor pool. After leaving the service, he was employed as a mechanic in Housatonic, and then at Bunnell Auto Parts for many years. He retired as a driver for NuCom in 1990.

He was a longstanding member of the Berkshire County Deputy Sheriffs' Association, an avid hunter and fisherman, and a 50-year member of Cincinnatus Lodge AF&AM.

Donald married Virginia Szewczuk on Nov. 13, 1954. During their 57-year marriage, the couple spent many happy years fishing on Lake Champlain with friends and family, and traveling to a second home in Central Florida in the winter.

Donald is survived by his wife, Virginia; his daughter, Donna Fenn Heintzen and her husband, Guian Heintzen, of Pelham, N.Y., and Canaan, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Ariana Heintzen of New Orleans and Erich Heintzen of Ithaca, N.Y., and his sister, Elma Fitzgerald of Lee.

He was predeceased by his brother, Edgar, in 1994.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Per Donald's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Masonic graveside service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 22, at 11 a.m. at Saint Bridget's Cemetery on Van Deusenville Road in Housatonic.
