Roger N. Gaylord Sr.

1935-2012 PITTSFIELD Longtime Cheshire resident, Roger N. Gaylord, Sr. 76, passed on August 19, 2012, with his children by his side.

Born on December 25, 1935, the son of Kenneth and Elizabeth (Frilley) Gaylord, he was educated in Berkshire Village.

He married the late Barbara A. Brunell, on March 4, 1967, who was laid to rest on February 17, 2002.

He began his longtime construction career as Gaylord Construction with Bruce and Norman Gaylord. Later, he joined forces with Eddie Richards and Tim Newslow and BETNR Engineering & Construction was formed. (B [Bruce], E[Eddie], T[Tim], N[Norm], R[Roger]).

Roger lived a rich life of enjoyment which encompassed his many passions that included his camp The Lucky 7, in Ripton, Vermont and fishing aboard his Sea Gypsy on Lake Champlain with his wife as the Captain. He spent most of his life hunting with his sons Ken and Rusty and his many friends.

He was always on the go and could be found gallivanting around town visiting one of his buddies or stopping by to check on one of his many grandchildren.

He spent years snowmobiling with his family and friends - an enthusiasm for the sport that his own children, like Linda and Anne and their families, are enjoying today.

Over the years, he and Barb hosted many evenings of pitch or poker or spent time at football, baseball, or soccer fields where one of their grandchildren were eager to see their favorite fans in attendance.

He loved playing Skip Bo with his daughter Donna he always wanted to win. He was continually entertained by Anne's canine "children", where he most recently resided.

An avid Red Sox and Patriots fan he shared many innings and quarters with his children. In fact, he liked the Sox so much, he'd even enjoy "Red Sox in 2", often times confusing it with a live game. That was always worth a chuckle to his family.

Always willing to help his friends could count on him to mend a roof or install a window. His infectious laugh will surely be missed. There was no end to his love of life or his love of family. He smiled endlessly, even as his days on earth were coming to an end.

Survived by his two sons and three daughters: Kenneth, and wife Judy, Roger Gaylord Jr., and Bethany DeMarco, Donna Martin, and husband Fred, Linda Levesque, and husband Michael, Anne Lescarbeau and significant other, Steven Houle.

He leaves his beloved grandchildren: Elizabeth (Gaylord) Richardson, Sarah (Gaylord) Adelt, Jacob Gaylord, Jared Martin, Seth and Brittany Shepard, Elizabeth and Jenna Levesque, Zachary and Jackson Gaylord. Along with his great-grandchildren: Matthew, Rachel, and Hannah Richardson, Haley and Corey Adelt, and Natylee Martin.

Also survived by brother Mark Gaylord of Peru, Mass., and sister-in-law Nancy (Brunell) Barrett of North Carolina, and nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his companion Dorothy O'Bryan with whom he was fortunate to share much love, laughter and many smiles.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, brother Bruce, and sister Gail Phillips.
