1925-2012 DALTON George John Neuf died peacefully one month shy of his eighty-eighth birthday on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Sweetbrook of Williamstown Rehab and Nursing Center following years of decline from Lewy Bodies Disease.
George was born in the Bronx, New York on January 5, 1925, the son of George and Catherine Wendland Neuf, both of whom predeceased him, and was raised in Jackson Heights, N.Y. Graduating from Stuyvesant High School in NYC, he enlisted in the US Navy and served in the Pacific during WWII as an electronic technicians mate at the Admiralty Island ship repair and lastly on the USS PC 1131 in and around Singapore.
After the war he attended the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn under the GI Bill and earned a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree.
He was employed by GE A@OS dept. in Schenectady, NY and then in Pittsfield for ten years. He was later employed by the Beloit-Jones company in Dalton for 17 years, retiring in May 1987. He was a registered Professional Engineer in the State of New York.
George was a member of the Richmond Congregational Church as a choir member and also as a trustee.
He was predeceased by his Long Time Companion Jean Chapman of Richmond and his brother Donald Neuf of Huntington Bay, NY.
He is survived by his daughter Geraldine Senseney and his granddaughter Robin Senseney who lived with him in Dalton. Also surviving are his son Jeffrey of Hinsdale, daughter Kristen and granddaughter Kaitlyn Conner of Pittsfield, and son Kevin Neuf of Pittsfield. Also surviving is a brother William of Long Island, N.Y., the Chapman family and friends of Richmond, MA and the staff of Sweetbrook who fondly cared for him in his final days.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside services for Mr. George John Neuf will be held Saturday, December 15 at 11 a.m. at Mountainview Cemetery in Lenox, MA. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
