1921-2012 PITTSFIELD Mrs. Olga (Jasik) Zaiken died on December 29, 2012 in Westfield, Mass where she had resided for the past 4 1/2 years with her daughter, grandson and his family. Previously she had lived for over 80 years in Pittsfield, Mass.
Olga was born in Lawrence, Mass. on August 10, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Max and Anna Huska Jasik. Olga graduated from Tucker School, Pittsfield High School class of 1939, Pittsfield Secretarial School and attended Berkshire Community College.
She married her high school sweetheart, John Zaiken, on January 23, 1941 and they were married for 67 years. He died on December 29, 2008. Olga had two sisters, Lillian Batch and Marion Maruk who both died in 2012.
Olga was employed as a legal secretary for Attorney Francis McMahon for five years, then 15 years at Prentice Bradley A.I. Architect and finally 10 years as a legal secretary to Kelton Burbank and Stephen Hibbard of the firm Cain, Hibbard, Myers and Cook, from which she retired in 1985. She thoroughly enjoyed her work and took great pride in doing a good job.
Olga was also active throughout her life, first as a child with ballet, then as a young adult with the Dalton Community Players, both as an actress and also serving as President. She worked as Executive Director of the Dalton Camp Fire Girls Council. She also became active in PTA, first as president of Russell School PTA, President of Pittsfield PTA, Council State Chairman for the PTA Council, and member of the State Board of Managers of the Mass. Council of PTA's. She also did publicity for Citizens Scholarship Foundation in Pittsfield.
Olga had many interests including needlepoint, quilting, flower gardening and Christmas baking. She did extensive research on the Jasik and Zaiken Family histories and compiled a booklet for each family member.
She is survived by her daughter Maxine Zaiken Kreikamp of Westfield, Mass. with whom she resided; her grandson, Brad Kreikamp and his wife, Jen, and their son Logan also lived with Olga. Logan brought many smiles to Olga's face on a daily basis. Olga's other grandson, Todd Kreikamp lives in Mechanicsvile, Virginia with his wife Susan and their two daughters, Brooke and Chandler. Olga was very proud of her great-granddaughters and they loved her dearly. Olga was devoted to each member of her family.
Olga was a very thoughtful and kind individual. Olga's family would like to thank her doctors, Dr. Kuppuswamy, Dr. Yee and Dr. Pajouh not only for their excellent care of her, but for their sincere interest in her wellbeing. Thank you also to the Westfield Council on Aging for their assistance in getting Olga to her medial appointments. Her family would also like to thank the Noble Visiting Nursing and Hospice Services for their compassionate care of Olga. She was a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mrs. Olga Zaiken will be Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 10 a.m from the DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St., Pittsfield MA, with a Divine Liturgy at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, celebrated by Rev. Barnabas Fravel. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours at the Dwyer Funeral Home will be Wednesday, January 2, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Nicholas Church building fund or Noble Visiting Nurses and Hospice Services care of the Dwyer Funeral Home in her memory.
