The Guest Book is expired.
1925 - 2013 LONGMEADOW Jennie I. (Dojka) Porowski, 87, of Longmeadow, Mass., entered into Eternal Rest on Monday, January 28, 2013.
She was born on February 18, 1925, in the Thompsonville section of Enfield, CT, daughter of Stanley and Mary (Wontroba) Dojka. She was the beloved wife of 54 years of Alexander J. Porowski who predeceased her in 2004. Jennie's early years were spent on a farm on Elm Street playing with her brothers and sister and her good friend Mary Kasperczak. She possessed a tremendous sense of right versus wrong and never gossiped about anyone. Jennie had a smile that would light up any room she was in or place that she was at. She became an avid baseball player and after graduating Enfield High School became an office worker at the Bigelow Sanford Carpet Co. for nine years and at the A.G. Spaulding Co. in Chicopee, for three years. She also joined the Grey's (women's baseball) Team of Bigelow Sanford and being so pretty, created quite the sensation as she played first base at a game in NYC! Jennie was also a very accomplished polka dancer, as she (and soon to be husband Alex) won first prize over 400 couples at the Riverside Park's Polka Dance Contest one summer. Subsequently, she married Alex on November 19, 1949, and then became the ultimate housewife by providing a warm and clean home for her husband and her loving son, Danny. Mom took so much pride to ensure that we and the house were presentable. She was the absolute dynamo of washing clothes, ironing, dusting, vacuuming and was a good cook. Jennie was a stalwart supporter of the Mello-Tones Polka Band in her later years. She and her husband, Alex, attended many dances at the Spruce Grove Lounge and Shady Pines Campgrounds in Savoy and at the PACC in South Hadley, MA to name a few.
Besides her son Danny, Jennie is survived by her brother-in-law, Edward Moskal, and sister-in-law, Mattie Dojka.
Jennie was predeceased by her brothers, Frank, Theodore, and Stanley Dojka, and her sisters, Nellie Matuck and Stella Moskal. She leaves her nephews Chester Porowski, Sr., Richard Malek, Ronald Knapp and niece Nancy Paul.
