Alda A. Melchiori Wood

1923-2013 NORTH ADAMS Mrs. Alda A. Melchiori Wood, 89 of 85 Eagle St. North Adams, and formerly of 48 School St. died Thursday February 21, 2013 at Williamstown Commons.

She was born in Bolentina, Trentino, Italy on June 16, 1923, daughter of Antonio and Domenica Maria (Albasini) Melchiori. She came to the United States at the age of seven and attended schools in North Adams.

Alda worked at Sprague Electric Co. and Hunter Outdoor Products. She was primarily a homemaker and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Alda enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, knitting, and crocheting. She especially enjoyed trips to the beach.

She was the widow of Lawrence G. Wood, who died December 7, 1991. They were married on January 15, 1944.

Survivors include four sons- Lawrence M. Wood and his wife, Stephanie of Pownal, Vt.; Donald G. Wood, and his wife, Gail of West Roxbury, Mass., and Pownal, Vt.; Richard J. Wood and his wife, Debra of North Adams; and Michael J. Wood and his wife, Faye of Clarksburg. Ten Grandchildren, Bridget Oakes, Christopher Wood, Michael Martocchio, Shelley Potterton, Jennifer Rosier, Kimberly Rougeau, Jason Wood, Zachary Wood, Kate Levesque, and Michael Wood Jr. Twenty great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She also leaves one sister- Norma Williams of North Adams and nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by her brother Michael Melchiori who died on October 19, 2010. Her beloved dog, "Babe" is also deceased.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral for Alda Wood will be Tuesday February 26, 2013 at 10:15 AM from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS CENTRAL CHAPEL, 74 Marshall St. North Adams followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday from 4 to 7 p.m.
