Arlene Martin


Sept. 17, 1926 - March 3, 2013 WILLIAMSTOWN Arlene Mason, daughter of Harry A. Martin and Clara Alice Martin.

Arlene was born in Russell and moved to Williamstown in her teens, graduating from theformer Williamstown High School in 1944. She received her R.N. degree from New England Baptist Hospital in Boston and returned to Williamstown towork at W. B. Plunkett Memorial Hospital and Sweetbrook Nursing Home.

Married to Ralph C. Mason, Jr. in 1949, she raised their family and owned and operated Mason Oil Company, Inc. with her husband until retirement.

She volunteered for the American Red Cross and served on the School Committee of Mount Greylock Regional High School.

Happiest outdoors, at home on Purple Kings Farm, Arlene devoted herself to her family, her farm and her dogs. She was a 'just do it' kind of person, taking on all challenges fearlessly, tirelessly and cheerfully.

Arlene is survived by her husband of 63 years, Ralph C. Mason Jr.; their children, Wendy Green, Terry Mason, Darcy Westall (David), Ralph C. Mason III (Christine), Lanny Mason (Leigh) and Toby Mason (Sheila); her brothers, Richard Martin and Ronald Martin, nine grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Cole.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The family will announce a date for a celebration of Arlene's life to be held at Purple Kings Farm, 633 Northwest Hill Road, Williamstown.
