Joseph U. Abderhalden lll

1951 - 2013 LEE Joseph U. Abderhalden lll, 61, of Washington Mountain Road died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.

He was born in Pittsfield on Dec. 31, 1951, the son of Joseph U. Abderhalden, Jr. and Gladys K. Carty Abderhalden. He was educated in Lee Schools and was a 1970 graduate of Lee High School

He served with the Army Reserves, a member of the 187th Brigade 3rd Infantry form 1971-1977.

He had worked for his family at Abby and Sons, also worked for the Town of Lee, Southern Berkshire Welding and at one time ran his own blacktopping business. In the late 1970's, he began working for Western Mass Electric, retiring in 2006.

He was a board member of the Lee Town DPW, former Little League coach and a member of the Lee High Gridiron. He enjoyed NASCAR and restoring his 1948 Jeep Willy's. He was a fan of the Boston red Sox and the New England Patriots. His biggest joy was his children and his grandchildren.

He leaves his wife, the former Linda C. DeGiorgis, whom he married June 24, 1972; one son Joseph U. Abderhalden IV and his wife, Kimberly, of Lee; one daughter ,Jodi L. Roberts and her husband, Jay, of Pittsfield; two sisters, Sandra L. Retzel and her husband, Ken, of Lee and Jeanne M. Frusciente and her husband Bob of Lee; four grandchildren, Olivia M. Roberts, Micah J. Roberts, Joseph U. Abderhalden, V, and Matthew D. Abderhalden.

He was predeceased by his twin brother, Martin Abderhalden.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service for Jospeh U. Abderhalden III will be held Saturday, March 9, at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Pittsfield with the Rev. Jennifer Gregg officiating, assisted by William Frazier. Calling hours will be Friday, March 8, from 4 to 7p.m. at the KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee.
