Marie Pistorius Obituary
Marie Pistorius, 90, of Prague, Czech Republic, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Sweet Brook.
Marie was born in Prague, Czech Republic, on Jan. 24, 1923, daughter of Adolf and Albina (Pittlova) Skokan. She attended Charles University where she got a diploma in library science, and a second degree in French history.
In Paris, she worked at the Union Française des Organismes de Documentation. When she first came to the United States, she was a cataloger at Lafayette College Library in Easton, Pa.
In Williamstown, she worked at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute as an art librarian and then at Williams College as a librarian.
She is survived by her husband, George Pistorius, Professor Emeritus of French at Williams College, her daughter, Erika, and her husband, John Stamper, and her granddaughter, Alessandra.
She was predeceased by her brother, Mila Skokan.
She enjoyed traveling to Europe, going to art exhibits, hiking, especially in the Alps, nature, reading, and classical music.
Funeral Notice: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Williams College. Burial will follow in the Williams College Cemetery.
