Hilda G. Haig

1936 - 2013 WILLIAMSTOWN Hilda G. (Griffin) Haig, 77, of 79 Champagne Ave., died Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at the North Adams Regional hospital.

She was born in North Adams on Feb. 27, 1936, a daughter of Ellsworth and Yvonne (Remillard) Griffin. She graduated from the former Williamstown High School.

She was employed for many years in the Dean's Office at Williams College.

Hilda was a humble and gentle women devoted to her family. She loved the birds and wildlife that visited her flower garden. In her earlier years, she enjoyed country music and dancing with husband, Tommy. More recently, she enjoyed reading and watching the Boston Bruins with her dog, Bella, at her side. She was a crossword puzzle wizard. She enjoyed her caring community of neighbors at the Spruces. Hilda was a generous, kind, friend to all.

Her husband, Thomas S. Haig whom she married in 1953, died Oct.19, 1980.

Survivors include two daughters, Cindy Haig Collyer, and her husband, Dan, of Williamstown and Kathy Haig, and her husband John Block, of Sudbury; one son Don Haig and his wife, Kathy, of Hanson; one daughter-in-law, Terry Haig of North Adams; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Garnish and his wife, Kelly, Eli Garnish, Mia Alpi and her husband, Lance, Emmy Garnish, Sofia Block, Christopher Haig and his wife Joy, Katie Haig and Kimberly Haig; six great-grandchildren, River, Marlee, Anna, Charlotte, Lily and Liam; one brother-in-law, Jack Haig and his wife, Priscilla, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Thomas S. Haig.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Sherman Burbank Memorial Chapel in Williamstown. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery.

Memorial donations are suggested for the National Shrine of St. Jude 205 West Monroe St. Chicago, Il 60606.
