Lilla Ruth Dickinson
1921 - 2013 NORTH ADAMS Lilla Ruth (Jones) Dickinson, 92, of 80 Porter Street, lately of Sweetbrook Care Center, Williamstown, died peacefully on Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Berkshire Medical Center, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Dickinson was born in North Adams on March 13, 1921, daughter of Jesse and Archer (Lattimer) Jones, she attended school in North Adams.
She was a long-time employee of Excelsior Printing Company, transferring to Excelsior Process and Engraving Company, which eventually merged with Crane and Company, where she worked for many years as a supervisor in the Inspection Department. She was promoted to the position of Assistant Plant Manager in 1979. Lilla was also very proud of her role as Safety Director for the company as she had always aspired to be a nurse. She retired from Crane and Company in 1988 after more than 29 years of service.
Mrs. Dickinson loved traveling, spending time with family and her beloved pets. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed feeding and observing birds. She was a member of the Clarksburg Council on Aging and spent many pleasant hours enjoying the activities there.
Mrs. Dickinson was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
Her husband, Edmund A. Dickinson, whom she married May 1, 1943, passed away April 25, 1999. Mrs. Dickinson was also predeceased by her two sisters, Edna Burdick and Mildred Tatro and her brother Archer Jones, Jr. One brother, Harold, who died in childhood.
Mrs. Dickinson is survived by her five children, Gary E. Dickinson and his wife, Paula, of Burke, Va., Dennis A. Dickinson and his wife, Rosemari, of North Adams, Carol E. (Dickinson) Sorel and her husband, John, of Fairfield, Conn., Valerie Dickinson of Stamford, Vt., and Wendy Dickinson and her husband, Robert Guettler, of North Adams; six grandchildren, Edmund G. Dickinson of Woodbridge, Va., Dennis A. Dickinson Jr. and his wife, Ali, of Marblehead, Renee A. (Sorel) Moore of Monroe, Conn., John D. Sorel and his wife, Allison, of Monroe, Conn., Justin M. Dickinson of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Thomas Guettler of North Adams; five great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Services for Lilla Dickinson will be Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at 10 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church on Summer Street, North Adams. Burial will follow at the Clarksburg Cemetery. Calling hours are today, Tuesday, July 2, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI, West Chapels, 521 West Main Street, North Adams.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society, Barker Road, Pittsfield, through the funeral home.
