Donald C. Sarin
1935 -2013 Donald Charles Sarin, 78, passed away Sunday surrounded by his loved ones after a brief, intense battle with anaplastic thyroid cancer. Born in Detroit, Michigan, the only son of Victor and Helen (Cahill) Sarin, he attended Precious Blood School, University of Detroit High School and graduated from the University of Michigan. He enjoyed a successful career in the financial services industry, living in New York City, Lenox MA, and retiring to Oregon. Don served on the boards of Kern Hospital (20 years), Berkshire Botanical Garden, Berkshire Museum and Madden Open Hearts Camp. He passed on his Catholic faith, sense of humor and bargain-hunting skills to his family, as well as his love of travel, good food, fine wine, the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings. Don had the true gift of being able to connect with people of every stripe. You can best honor Don's memory by enjoying a great meal at a new restaurant, sharing a special wine with your sweetheart, finishing the daily crossword or passing on an old, corny joke to make someone laugh. He is survived by his sister, Nancy McDonnell and her family, significant other, Carol Herron, children: Suzanne Sarin Shepanek (Chris), Charles Sarin (Sally), Barry Sarin (Anne), Donald V. Sarin (Kathy), Lisabeth Sarin Farrens (Cory), Alessandra Thomas (Craig) and Margaux Sarin, eleven grandchildren and countless friends. Also survived by Joan Sarin and Mary Lupton. MEMORIAL NOTICE: Don's memorial service will be celebrated 11 AM Thursday, September 5 at St. Anthony Church in Tigard, Oregon, with reception following in O'Reilly Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Anthony's St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry or St Anthony Severe Weather Shelter.
