James O'Brien Herrick Jr.
1967-2013 RICHMOND James O'Brien Herrick, Jr., 46, of Osceola Road Extension, died suddenly on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 17, 1967, the son of James O. and Valerie Maillow Herrick, Jim was a 1986 graduate of St. Joseph High School in Pittsfield, and earned a B.A. degree in economics and philosophy from Boston College in 1990. At the time of his death, Jim was in the midst of a successful career in the insurance industry. Since Dec. 2009, he had served as Vice President of Personal Lines at Berkshire Insurance Group in Pittsfield. He was previously employed at the Hanover Insurance Group in Worcester, Berkshire Mutual Insurance Company in Pittsfield, and the Toole Insurance Agency in Lee. He was a communicant of St. Paul's Church in Stockbridge and a member of the Alford Brook Club in Alford. Jim had a passion for the outdoors and loved sports, especially basketball. He volunteered as a board member, coach, and referee for the Lenox Youth Basketball Association for many years. Jim and his wife, Elissa (Lisa) Fraser, were married on Dec. 17, 1994. Besides his wife of Richmond and parents of Lenox, he is survived by his beloved children, Benjamin J. Herrick and Mollie M. Herrick, both at home; his brother, Timothy J. Herrick and Kim Wheeler of Lee; and his sister, Elaine M. Luers and husband Gregory of Dublin, Ohio; his father and mother-in-law, James K. Fraser, Jr. and Joyce H. Fraser of Newtonville, N.Y.; and his sister-in-law, Carrie Fraser Donaldson and husband Robert of Harvard. Jim is also survived by his aunts and uncles, David Herrick of New Marlborough, Richard Herrick and Betsy Holtzinger Herrick of Lenox, and Mary Jo Piretti Miller and Leonard Miller of Lenox. In addition, he leaves his treasured cousins, nieces and nephews, and an amazing group of friends he loved like brothers. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. James O. Herrick, Jr. of Richmond will be Tuesday morning, September 17, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Ann's Church in Lenox. Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery. Calling hours at the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main Street, Lenox, will be Monday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. A period of visitation especially for the students and staff of Lenox Memorial Middle and High School will precede the calling hours, from 3 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory may be made to the Lenox Youth Basketball Association in care of the funeral home.
