1940-2013 STOCKBRIDGE Albert J. Bliss, DDS, of Stockbridge passed away peacefully on September 22, 2013, at Berkshire Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born June 1, 1940 on a U.S. Naval base in Shanghai, China where his father, Ernest Bliss, was stationed with his mother, Anna Bliss (nee Blate). After graduating from Long Island University, he earned a doctorate in dental surgery (D.D.S.) from the University of Buffalo. He then earned a postgraduate degree in oral surgery in New York City. From 1970 until 1972, he served in the Navy until he was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. In 1972 Dr. Bliss started his own oral surgery practice in Pittsfield, which was later moved to Great Barrington. He retired in 2006. A world traveler and avid fisherman, Al loved his family above all else. He greatly appreciated music, history, and art, and was a renowned collector of antique dental instruments. Dr. Bliss is survived by his wife of 49 years, Aileen Bliss; his three sons, David of Milford, wife Carol and children Mackenzie and Harrison, Jason of Glen Cove, N.Y., wife Jennifer and children Max and Benjamin, and Eric of Ithaca, N.Y., wife Elizabeth and son Nathaniel. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at Temple Anshe Amunim, 26 Broad Street, Pittsfield, conducted by Rabbi Josh Breindel.
