Raymond Joseph Bertelli Sr.

1919-2013 GREAT BARRINGTON Raymond Joseph Bertelli, Sr, 94, of State Road, died Wednesday morning, September 25, 2013 surrounded by his family. Born April 5, 1919 in Lee, Massachusetts he was one of six children born to Arnaldo and Annetta Casella Bertelli. He attended Lee schools. A veteran of World War II, Ray served in the Army in the European Theater where he made the landing of Normandy. Ray was the produce manager at the former A&P in Great Barrington for over 35 years, retiring in 1981. He married his beloved wife, the former Margaret Seward, July 13, 1946 at St. Peter's Church in Great Barrington. Margaret died January 3, 2005. An avid Red Sox fan, Ray also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was a member of the James A. Modolo VFW Post 8348, the American Legion and a communicant of St. Peter's Church. Ray is survived by his son, Raymond Bertelli, Jr. and his wife Julie of Monterey; a daughter, Nancy Mead, of Great Barrington and her companion Robert Firth; six grandchildren, Angela Stannard, Lisa Bertelli and her husband Brian, Michael Bertelli and his wife Stacey, Brian Mead and his wife Trish, Adam Mead and his wife Beth, and Sarah Mead; and 12 great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his sisters: Marie Scaramuzzi, Palmiro Pauletto, Emma McDarby, Eale Salenetti, and Alda Shepard. FUNERAL NOTICE: The family will receive friends on Friday, September 27, 2013 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Church in Great Barrington, conducted by Rev. William P. Murphy, pastor. Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires through FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
