Samuel Salvatore Leone

1930-2013 Samuel Salvatore Leone, 83, of 82 Euclid Avenue, Pittsfield, died Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Cohoes, New York, on August 2, 1930, a son of Antonio and Concetta Petruzella Leone, he was educated in Pittsfield schools where he excelled in track. He also played baseball for the City League team, Polish Americans. A Korean War veteran, Mr. Leone served with the United States Air Force from 1947 to 1951, Achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. Mr. Leone was an agent for John Hancock Life Insurance Company for 35 years. For a time before and after his military service, he was employed by General Electric Company. He had also worked for Kaufman Brothers. Mr. Leone attended St. Mark Church. Known as "Papa", Mr. Leone was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was admired by teachers and camp counselors for doting on his granddaughters, Bella, Sophie, and Mia. He enjoyed golf, bocci, woodworking, and crossword puzzles. Mr. Leone leaves his wife, the former Barbara A. McCluskey, whom he married July 31, 1954. He is also survived by two daughters, Cathy Leone-Casey of Orlando, Florida, and Annmarie Leone of Pittsfield; a son, Samuel A. Leone, and his wife, Christeen, of Vancouver, Washington; his twelve loving grandchildren and seven loving great grandchildren; as well as a brother, David A. Leone, of Pittsfield; a sister, Ruth C. Campbell, of Pittsfield; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a son, Keith, and two sisters, Martha Maynard and Esther Rocca. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Samuel S. Leone will be held Monday, November 18, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., at St. Mark Church celebrated by Rev. John C. Salatino, Pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires or to St. Mark Church Food Pantry both in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
