A crane operator at the former General Electric Co., he later became a master machinist at Clarke Aiken in Lee. Previously, he was employed as a youth in the operation of the former family business, the Dalton Ave, Avalle Florists. In later years, Mr. Avalle enjoyed landscaping and caring for lawns as an enterprise. A lifelong practicing Catholic, he was a former member of St. Joseph's Church. Mr. Avalle was most proud of his Army career, where he served as a Military Policeman with the Occupational Forces in Japan following the conclusion of World War II. Known as a man who enjoyed working with his hands, he loved to tinker, hook rugs and craft leather items. He enjoyed all forms of animal life, including birds, and squirrels, but most of all, the companionship of a Golden Retriever "Miss Ruby". His wife, the former Rose M. Seaman, whom he married Oct. 15,1945, died July 25,2008. He is survived by his son, Bernard J. Avalle and his wife, Linda R. Avalle, of Pittsfield; his daughter, Barbara R.
