Marianne Louise Kelly
1945 - 2013 PITTSFIELD Mrs. Marianne L. Kelly, 68, of 38 Tor Court, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at Springside Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center. She was born May 25, 1945, in Tupper Lake, N.Y., the daughter of Adrian and Leona Prenoveau. Marianne was a hardworking single mother who proudly raised her four young children. She was known for her beautiful smile and happy disposition. She dearly loved her grandchildren. She especially loved spending time with them and having sleepovers. Her favorite pastimes were sports, bike riding, gardening and baking. She loved to dance and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. After high school graduation, Marianne earned an Associate's Degree in Business Administration at Berkshire Community College. Professionally, Marianne started her 30-year career at Berkshire Medical Center in the Payroll Department. As BMC grew into Berkshire Health Systems, so did Marianne, ending with her position as Benefits Manager. There were many friendships developed with her co-workers that would last a lifetime. With an extensive family history of Alzheimer's Disease (AD), she was diagnosed with the disease at the young age of 59. Marianne was brave and proactive, seeking medical help at the first signs of trouble. She retired soon after her diagnosis and left a job and career she loved. Even years after retirement, wherever she went she was met with hugs and thank you's from numerous friends and co-workers. Despite the disease, Marianne would have many more happy, fulfilling years. Helping to find a cure for AD became her mission. She participated in two clinical trials for Alzheimer's treatments; the first in Albany, N.Y., and the second in Pittsfield with Dr. Jay Ellis. Additionally, Marianne enrolled in a PET scan study at Yale University's Alzheimer's Disease Research Unit and a group study along with her siblings at the National Cell Repository for Alzheimer's Disease at the University of Indiana. The family wishes to thank Dr. Jay Ellis for his research on AD along with Vincent Marinaro and Janie Hassinger at the Supportive Day Program which provides daytime activities and supervision for those with Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia. The family also wishes to thank all the kind and competent nurses, nursing assistants and staff who cared for her at Sugar Hill Safe Haven, Springside Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center for the past year. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas J. Kelly, Sr., in 1968. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Jack and David Prenoveau. Survivors include her daughters, Mrs. Ann Paris (Vincent), Mrs. Barbara Laureyns (Richard), Maureen Kelly (Robert); her son Mr. Thomas Kelly, Jr. (Colleen), all of Pittsfield; 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and seven brothers and sisters, Robert Prenoveau, Midge Davidson, Jean LaMere, Paul Prenoveau, Patricia Madore, Bette Brumlow, and Steven Prenoveau.
