Wilbur W. Burchard

1925 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Wilbur W. Burchard, 88, of Pittsfield, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at Hillcrest Commons Nursing Home. Born in Pittsfield on June 14, 1925, the son of Emile A. and Frances E. Griffin Burchard, he was educated in Pittsfield schools. A World War II Marine Corps veteran, his service was in the Asiatic Pacific Theater from 1943-1946. During this time, he participated in action against the enemy on Iwo Jima. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Burchard was employed with the US Postal Service. An avid Ham Radio operator, his call sign was AB1Y. His wife, Marie E. (Ramos) Burchard, whom he married Nov 23, 1953, died May 1, 2011. He leaves a son, Robert Burchard, his wife, Debra, and their children, John and Nicholas of Stamford, Vt. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Franklin Burchard and Clifford Burchard and by his sister, Burdella (Betty) Baker. FUNERAL NOTICE: A private graveside service is planned.
