4/23/31 1/29/13 RICHMOND Beverly Mandel of Richmond, Mass. and Manhattan was born in Manhattan in 1931 to Eddie Mendlowitz Mandel and Belle Weise Mandel. She spent her youth and adolescence in Brooklyn, N.Y. She graduated from Hunter High School and Brooklyn College then attended the University of Chicago Law School. Beverly began her working career on Wall Street, working for Gold Freedman for 20 years. The second phase of her career was as Administrator at the Department of Human Resources for the City of New York. Respected as the matriarch of the family, she was called upon for her opinions, strategies, and business expertise. She was well read, well traveled and well cultured, all of which she instilled in her family. In her leisure time she was a devoted sports fan. We could not miss a NY Mets or NY Jets game. She always enjoyed a GOOD poker game. Beverly leaves her family, Arleen Kozaka, Dr. Vicki Smith, grandaughter Darcey Robinson, great-grandaughter Josephine Kozaka and friend Cary Quigley, as well as many cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her partner, Carol Capizzi; her grandson, Rafe Kozaka, friend, Judge Leona Freedman, and her dog, Rascal. Beverly S. Mandel was a big woman with an even bigger heart. She is missed by her loving family. The Unveiling for Ms. Mandel will be held at Knowllwood Park Jewish Cemetery/Mt. Carmel in Queens, N.Y. on February 16, 2014 at 1 p.m.
