Donald Orlie Westbrook

1930-2014 PITTSFIELD Donald Orlie Westbrook, 83, of Pittsfield died February 4 at his home after a brief battle with acute lymphocytic leukemia. Donald, the son of the late Orlie and Gertrude Westbrook, was born June 5, 1930 in Williamsport, Pa. and grew up in Naugatuck and Middlebury, Conn. He served in the Army from 1948 thru 1952 and was stationed in Japan. He married his wife, Filomena Tiscione and they relocated to Pittsfield in 1957. Don was employed by the U.S. Navy as a Quality Assurance Specialist while working at the Naval Ordnance Systems at General Electric for 36 years. After his retirement in 1993, he became a dedicated community volunteer with Elder Services and RSVP. In Year 2002, Don and Fil were honored as Volunteers of the Year by RSVP. Don enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and loved the outdoors and traveling. He has been on a bowling league since 1962 and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Monsignor Eugene F. Marshall Council 103 for 52 years where he served as Treasurer for many years and was a Fourth Degree member of Bishop Conaty Assembly. He will be remembered for his kindness, quiet, friendly demeanor and his willingness and ability to draw accurate maps for family and friends who were planning a road trip. He is survived by his daughter, Donna Westbrook Walsh of Winslow, Maine; his three grandchildren, Daniel, Jonathan, and Adriana Walsh; his sister Arlene Swenson of Waterbury, Connecticut; his friend, Mary Gloria; and many nieces and nephews. Donald was predeceased by his wife, Filomena; son, Robert; and son­in­law, Stephen Walsh FUNERAL NOTICE: Services will be Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 8 a.m. from the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at St. Charles Church with the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday, February 7, from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to No Stomach for Cancer in care of the funeral home.
