Janet K. McNeil

1933-2014 PITTSFIELD Janet K. (Hill) McNeil died in Pittsfield on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at the age of 80 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in North Attleboro, Mass. on October 13, 1933, the daughter of William and Rita Lanteigne Hill, and she graduated from North Attleboro High School in 1951. She married William F. McNeil and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past November. In the early 1960's, Janet was active in the local civil rights movement, attending strategy meetings and fighting the battles to integrate the local schools. She worked as assistant manager of the Racquet Club at Bosquet, and was co-owner of the Court Seven Pro Shop. Later she served as office manager for two of her husband's companies. Janet loved sports her entire life. She participated in many sports including downhill skiing and tennis and was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriot fan. She also enjoyed travelling, theatre, and bridge. Janet's happiest moments were spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grand children. She was a communicant of St. Joseph 's Church. Previously, she had been a communicant of St. Mark Church where she participated in the CCD program and was active in the Food Pantry. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her four children, Michael and his wife Carol of Hinsdale, Daniel and his wife Audrey of Florida, Jeanne Kruger and her fiancee John Bartini of Pittsfield, and Eileen Kurcon and her husband Philip of Chelmsford, Mass., nine grandchildren, Jessica Riley, Jeffrey and Jenna Kruger and the late Jamie Lee Kruger, Connor and Rachel Kurcon, Morgan, Shannon, Shane, and Katie McNeil; three step-grandchildren, Joseph and Ari Vernine, and Joseph Gessow, all of Florida; and six great-grandchildren, Anthony, Jamie, Keira, Jianna, Liam and Grace. She is also survived by her sister, Mary and her husband James Musto of Cape Cod and her former daughter-in-law, Margaret Thrift of Florida. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mrs. Janet K. McNeil will be Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 8 a.m. from the DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St., Pittsfield, MA with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church celebrated by Monsignor Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday, February 7, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be in her name to the St. Joseph's Food Pantry care of the Dwyer Funeral Home.
