Mary Josephine (White) Ruzicka Obituary
Mary Josephine (White) Ruzicka, 94, died Sunday, February 16, 2014 at North Adams Commons where she had resided since June 12, 2012.
She was born in Morsemere, New Jersey, Oct. 13, 1919, daughter of George and Mary Josephine (Murtha) White. She later lived in Englewood, NJ. After moving to Forest Hills, New York, she attended Hunter College in N.Y.C. and graduated with a B.A. in 1941.
She was employed in 1942 for 5 years with the Writing Paper Manufactures' Assoc. in N.Y.C. in the Statistical Dept. On January 5, 1947 she married Ludwig Ruzicka and moved to Springfield, Mass. She was employed 4 years by the Eastern States Farmers' Exchange in West Springfield, Mass.
In 1951 they moved to West Springfield, where she lived for 11 years and in 1962 to North Adams, where she lived until her death. She had worked at the Adams Nursing Home of North Adams, Inc. 1967-1969 and then Jarisch Paper Box, Inc. until Feb., 1970 doing bookkeeping in their Business Offices. She was last employed at the Transcript in North Adams from 1970 until 1981, when she retired.
She enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Cheshire Stompers Club for 18 years and was an 11-year member of the West Springfield Square Dance Club. She enjoyed reading immensely, especially mystery novels, and was a member of the Friends of the North Adams Public Library.
She leaves a daughter, Jane E. Ruzicka and her husband, Richard P. Stickney, Jr., and a son, Paul R. Ruzicka, all of North Adams. She was predeceased by her husband on January 16, 1987 and by her sister, Leonie White, on May 15, 1987.
Mary's children would like to thank the staff both at Home Instead Senior Care in Pittsfield and the North Adams Commons for their caring and dedication.
Per Mary's wishes, there will be no calling hours or services. A private funeral will be held at Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Homes at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery at a later date.
