Maurice H. Gibson
1930 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Maurice H. Gibson passed away peacefully on Feb. 21, 2014, following a brief illness. Born on July 25, 1930, in Wallsend upon Tyne, England, he was the son of Lawrence and Elizabeth Gibson. Growing up near the North Sea, he began his passion for the sea and all things nautical. He was especially proud of his certification as a lifeboatman. Maurice served as an engineer both in the Royal Navy and, later, with the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company. It is not surprising that his happiest times were always around the water. Beloved husband of Elinor; loving father of Sian; devoted grandfather of Andrew, Geoffrey, and Emily Rollwitz of Houston, and much loved brother of Margaret Mattison and Marilyn Turner of England. FUNERAL NOTICE: Maurice's life will be celebrated in a memorial service at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church on a date to be announced. Memorial donations may be made to The Association for Rescue at Sea, an organization which sponsors volunteer maritime rescues worldwide, designating The Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) as recipient in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
