1931-2014 WILLIAMSTOWN Janet Wallace Ley, 83, of Sweetwood of Williamstown, 1611 Cold Spring Rd, Williamstown MA died peacefully at Berkshire Medical Center on Monday, March 31st. Janet was born on March 22, 1931 in NYC, the daughter of Janet Sabine Ley and Frederick A Ley. After the death of her mother, she was adopted by her father's second wife, Janet Upjohn. She married Fred Ley in 1982 and they moved to Williamstown. For thirty-three years, she maintained a noted portion of Mt Hope Farm as a residence on Green River Road. In 2007 they became residents of Sweetwood of Williamstown Independent Living. In 1952, as an Art History major, Janet graduated from Smith College Magna Cum Laude. She had been a docent at The Clark for 10 years until her retirement. Janet was a generous, caring lady with a warm sense of humor. She was an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Williamstown and was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow for her philanthropic work. Many scholarships have been awarded to college-bound seniors on her behalf. Her greatest joy in life was to quietly help others.
