1928 - 2013 LENOX DALE George Yakum, 84, of Elm Street, Lenox Dale, died on Nov. 28, 2013, at his sons home in Des Moines, Iowa. Born in E. Brooklyn, Conn., Dec. 25, 1928, the son of Peter and Sophia Kuzniar Yakum, he was a 1946 graduate of Norwich Free Academy in Norwich, Conn. Mr. Yakum served in the Navy from 1946 to 1949 on the USS Macon (CA-132) as a BT3. He and his wife, Helen Marie Fumo, were married in Mount Carmel Church in Springfield on June 24, 1950, and moved to the Berkshires in 1962. Mr. Yakum was a communicant of St Vincent de Paul Church in Lenox Dale for many years. He worked as a First Class Stationary Engineer and retired, after 29 years with Mead Paper, as an Engineering Services Manager in 1990. He enjoyed repairing bicycles, collecting numerous items, and going to tag sales. For many years, he was a flea market dealer in New Lebanon, N.Y. George is survived by his children, David A. Yakum and his wife, Cathie, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Barbara A. Yakum of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Andrea Marie Tapps and her husband, Kyle, and David A. Yakum Jr. and his wife, LeeAnn; two great-grandchildren, Damien Yakum and Isabella Tapps; his sister, Jane Auby of Palmer, Mass., and brother Thomas Yakum of Springfield, Mass. Besides his parents and wife, George was predeceased by his granddaughter, Erin Lee Johnson. FUNERAL NOTICE: A liturgy of Christian Burial for George Yakum of Lenox Dale was celebrated on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at St. Ann's Church in Lenox by Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, Pastor. Burial followed in St Ann's Cemetery. There were no calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations in Mr Yakum's memory may be made to Make A Wish Foundation in care of the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA 01240.
