1939 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Robert Lee Johnson Sr., 74, of 34 Prospect Street, Pittsfield, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 11, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Dec. 26, 1939 in Tuskegee, Alabama, a son of the late Frank and Bertha Whitlow Johnson. He attended schools in Tuskegee. Mr. Johnson was last employed for the General Electric Co. for 27 years, retiring from the Navy Ordnance Department. After his retirement, he restored antique automobiles and enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He was a member of the St. Johns Lodge #10 of Free and Accepted Masons 3rd Masonic district of Massachusetts in Pittsfield, where he was a 32nd degree. He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, The Scottish Rite, The Shriners, The Knights of Templar and Civil Service of Pittsfield. He was also a member of the local Harley-Davidson Club. He was a member of Second Congregational Church, where he had served as a deacon and usher. He also enjoyed fishing, carpentry work, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Mr. Johnson is survived three daughters, Nadine F. Johnson of Pittsfield, Nicole A. Johnson and Natasha J. Artis and her husband Wallace, all of Charlotte, N.C.; two sons, Robert L. Johnson Jr. and his wife, Lori, and Daniel L. Johnson, all of Pittsfield; two sisters, Dorothy Foster and Barbara Kennedy, both of Pittsfield; a brother, Harold Johnson and his wife, Ann, of Fayville, N.C.; his former wife, Kathy Ann Church Johnson of Charlotte, N.C.; 14 grandchildren, Marcus, Mackenzie, Isaiah, Nishelle, Amelia, Amber, Ashley, Alecia, Robert, Kayla, Sierra, Skyler, Elijah, and Jeremiah; two great-grandchildren, Aunnica and Jozyah, and many nieces and nephews, family, and friends. Mr. Johnson was predeceased by four sisters, Betty Watford, Carrie Johnson, Ella Patrick, and Maggie Goodson. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Robert L. Johnson Sr. will be held Thursday, April 17, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Second Congregational Church with the Rev. Leonard C. Comithier, officiating. Burial will follow in the Pittsfield Cemetery. A Masonic service will be held at the church on Thursday morning at 10 a.m. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, Ma. 01201. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials in his name be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
