Elizabeth Hall Melanson
1918 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" Hall Melanson, 96, formerly of 292 Elm St., died Monday morning at the Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Canaan, Conn. She was born in Pittsfield, Jan. 8, 1918, the daughter of the late Michael L. and Elizabeth Jackson Hall. She attended local schools and was the salutatorian of the 1935 graduating class at St. Joseph High School. Betty retired from Stevenson Insurance Co. in February of 1980, after many years of service. Betty's love of her church was second only to her family. Noted for her generosity and selflessness, she was a devoted Red Sox fan, and loved to read and knit, especially for her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Beth Menin and her husband, Paul A. Menin, of Ashley Falls, Mass.; four grandchildren, Lisa M. Jacquier, Amy L. Dodge, Elizabeth Mead, and Matthew Melanson; her daughter-in-law, Mary Melanson; six great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Amanda Jacquier, Abigail, Victoria and Amelia Dodge, and Elizabeth Mead. Her son, Mark H. Melanson, died Oct. 1, 2010. She is also predeceased by her three sisters, Mrs. Mary Ellery, Mrs. Charlotte Parker, and Mrs. Helen Sangiovanni. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Elizabeth "Betty" Melanson, 96, will be held Wednesday morning at 10:15 a.m. from the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Pittsfield. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Church in care of the funeral home.
