Robert J. Thomas Jr.

1931-2014 PITTSFIELD Robert "Bob" Thomas Jr., 82, of 91 Clydesdale Dr., passed away peacefully on Friday, April 25, 2014 at his home in Titusville, Fla. Born in Wilkes Barre, Pa., on November 4, 1931, the son of the late Robert J. and Alberta Swartz Thomas, he attended local schools in Wilkes Barre, and graduated with a BA from the University of Connecticut and received his MA at the University of Massachusetts where he also earned a CAGS. He proudly served his country as a Navy veteran serving in the Mediterranean area and then was stationed in Newport, R.I. where he met and married the love of his life, Beatrice, on September 10, 1954. He was last employed by the Pittsfield School System at Reid Middle School and previous Principal of Pittsfield Elementary Schools, retiring in 1982. His family and loved ones will remember him as a soft spoken gentleman who was very generous and caring. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and skiing with his family and friends and also enjoyed woodworking and antiquing. He was also a member of the Greylock Ski Club, the Elks and the Navy League. Loving husband of 60 years to Beatrice "Bea" Avery Thomas; devoted father of Scott Thomas, his wife, Vicky, and granddaughter, Shilo of Broadbrook, Conn. He is also survived by very special nieces, nephews and friends. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Robert "Bob" Thomas Jr. will be on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 11 a.m. with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 159 Church St., Cheshire, celebrated by the Rev. David R. Raymond, Pastor. Donations may be made to the St. Mary of the Assumption St. Vincent De Paul Fund.
