Barbara J. Freitag

1933 - 2014 ADAMS Barbara J. Freitag, 80, of 570 Whitehill Rd., Sylvania, Ga., formerly of Adams died, Aug. 1, 2014 at the Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Adams on Oct. 23, 1933, daughter of Frank Bowe and Geraldene Claire McBride, she attended Adams schools and graduated from the former Adams High School with the class of 1951. She was first employed with the former New England Telephone Co. in North Adams, and then for the former Welfare Department in Adams for several years. Her last place of employment was for Excelsior Processing & Engraving in North Adams where she retired. While in Adams, Barbara was a longtime communicant of the former St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Barbara was a former member of the Adams Turn Hall. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Joseph F. Freitag, whom she married on Feb. 11, 1960; four sons, Kenny Freitag, and his wife, Nancy of Cheshire, Shaun Freitag and his wife, Karen of Savoy, Joey Freitag of Ridgeland, N.C., and David Freitag of Savannah, Ga.; a daughter, Erin Freitag Puppolo and her husband, Perry of Lincoln University, Pa.; four brothers, Anthony P. McBride, and his wife, Ruth of Adams, Neil McBride and his wife, Linda of Alexandra, Va., Timothy McBride and his wife, Jeannie of Clyde, N.C., and Richard McBride and his wife, Pepita of Velensia, Spain; 11 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and her beloved dog, Dixie. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral for Barbara will take place Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014 at 9 a.m. at the TROTTIER PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Summer St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, celebrated by the Rev. Steven Montesanti, pastor. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. Donations in her memory may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the funeral home. The family of Barbara would like to give special thanks to the staff at the BMC Stroke and Neurology Center for there outstanding care during her stay.
