Obituary Condolences

NORTH ADAMS -- Ferris M. Ferris, 86, of Kemp Avenue died yesterday at North Adams Regional Hospital, where he was admitted July 26 after a brief illness.

Born in North Adams on May 11, 1918, son of Massoud J. and Bedea Ida Shaker Ferris, he was educated in local schools.

Mr. Ferris was employed by GE for a short time before entering the family business, M. Ferris & Sons Produce Co. until his retirement in 1993. He was also employed on a part-time basis with the former A. Ashkar Sales Co. for more than 20 years.

He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church and a former communicant of St. Francis' Church. He was a member of the Adams Turners, the North Adams Retirees Club and the Valley Park Candlepin Bowling League. He also enjoyed fishing and horse racing.

He and his wife, the former Elizabeth Solomon, were married Sept. 4, 1939, in St. Francis' Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves four daughters, Ann Molloy and Gloria Floriani, both of North Adams, Martha Perry of Priest River, Idaho, and Faith Barcome of Holyoke; a son, Marshall Ferris of Savannah, Ga.; a sister, Gemelle Solomon of North Adams; a brother, Shaker "Dickie" Ferris of North Adams; 12 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Ferris M. Ferris will be Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at 8:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Marshall Street, North Adams, celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. O'Hear, pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot at Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the CW Wing of Sweet Brook Health Care Centers through the funeral home. Survivors include sons-in-law William Molloy and James Floriani, both of North Adams, Lauren Perry of Priest River, Idaho, and John Barcome of Holyoke; daughter-in-law Glenda Ferris of Savannah, Ga.; sister-in-law Jean Ferris of North Adams; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his nephew, Shaffie Joseph Solomon, on April 7, 1988.
