Alvin Glenn Johnke, 73, of Big Spring, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2015 in Georgetown, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21, 2015 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.|
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015 at the funeral home.
Alvin was born April 23, 1942 in Howard County, Texas. He was a lifelong resident of Big Spring, beloved father and grandfather. He graduated Big Spring High School, Class of 1962. He married Joy Dell Miller in 2006 in Big Spring. She preceded him in death May 30, 2013.
Alvin was a service technician at Sears Roebuck Co. for 37 years. Upon retirement he owned and operated a small business for a number of years specializing in appliance repair as well as HVAC. An avid fisherman and gardener, Alvin remained a devout Christian throughout his life.
Alvin was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
He is survived by two sons; Adam Johnke of Austin and Allan Johnke of Sandy Springs, Ga.; one grandchild, Haleigh Johnke; one brother, Wayne Johnke of Big Spring; one sister, Charlene Henson of Baton Rouge, La.; and a very special cousin, Alvine McCasland of Big Spring.
In addition to his wife, Alvin was preceded in death by his daughter, Amanda Johnke; his parents, Alfred and Betty Ida (Speaker) Johnke; and two sisters, Georgia Harmonson and Verlene Atkinson.
