Auriel Arthur LaFond, 84, of Big Spring, died Tuesday, March 24, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. Interment will be at Trinity Memorial Park at a later date.|
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2015, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
Auriel was born July 30, 1930, in Manitowoc, Wis. to the late Arthur and Mary LaFond. He married Joan Starzyk, Jan. 30, 1954, in Munising, Mich. Auriel was an educator, teaching both math and science there. He moved his family to Big Spring in 1965 to be a part of Gamco Industries, an educational products company.
He eventually became the president of the company and retired when the headquarters moved out of state. After retirement, Auriel continued to teach high school and college classes. He was a chemistry professor at Howard College and was currently a tutor at Big Spring High School.
He was a faithful member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish and loved sharing his faith.
Auriel is survived by his wife, Joan LaFond of Big Spring; one daughter, Deanna and husband Don Reynolds of McKinney; a grandson, Trey Reynolds; a granddaughter, Faith Reynolds; one brother, Darrell LaFond and wife, Sharon of Green Bay, Wis.; a sister, Viette Hornick and brother-in-law, Roger Balthazor, both of Marinette, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Velda Balthazor; and a brother-in-law, Joe Hornick.
