Bob Saunders Garrett, 78, of Midland, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016 in a Midland hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 2016 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring with Phil Stroud officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.|
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Big Spring.
Bob was born to Ernest Garrett and Eleanor Saunders Garrett July 12, 1937 in Coahoma, Texas. He graduated from Coahoma High School. He attended Howard County Junior College and graduated from Sul Ross University. While attending Sul Ross he played football. Bob then served in the United States Army for two years from May of 1960 to May of 1962.
Bob farmed and ranched in Howard, Midland and Martin counties and also taught math for a number of years with the Midland ISD. He enjoyed participating and watching rodeo almost as much as he loved to fish. He was a member of the High Sky Bassing Bunch.
Survivors include one son, Mark Saunders Garrett and wife, Teresa; two step-children, Donna Burkart and Kenneth "Bud" Merrick and wife, Patty; nine grandchildren, Tyler Saunders Garrett, Colten Case Saunders Garrett, Jason Merrick and wife, Jennifer, Marissa Willis and husband, Donovan, Sean Merrick, Patrick Merrick, Stan Burkart, John Burkart and wife, Kriste, and Brandi Burkart; five great-grandchildren, Ryker Saunders Garrett, Haile, Aleigh and Brylee Merrick and Harper Charles Willis; one sister, Sue Neff and husband, Joe; and one nephew, Bryan Neff and wife, Laurie.
He was preceded in death by wife, Ina Irene Garrett; his parents, Ernest and Eleanor Garrett; a step-son, Charles Merrick; and a nephew, David Neff.
