Carolina (Caro) Velasquez, 90, formally of Big Spring, Texas went to rest with our good Lord on Sunday morning surrounded by her loved ones.|
Carolina was born in Uvalde, Texas on Sept. 27, 1925 to Emilio and Maria Gomez. Carolina married Inez H Velasquez on Jan. 11, 1949; they were married for 24 years.
Carolina worked as a caregiver and a loyal companion to Mrs. Modesta Stokes for 16 years. Carolina enjoyed sewing, being with family and, most of all, cooking. She was actively involved in the Guadalupanas, Cruziesta and various fund raisers for the St. Thomas Church in Big Spring.
Carolina was preceded in death by her parents Emilio and Maria Gomez; her husband Inez Velasquez; brother Raymundo Gomez and grandson Javier Velasquez.
Carolina is survived by her daughters, Dora Hilario (Frank), Edna Gonzales (Manuel Jr.) and Maria Padilla (Thomas); her sisters, Ramona Benavides of Uvalde and Petra Escamilla (Ruben Sr.) of Boerne; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter, and various nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank Joann Thompson and Janie Sanchez for their loving support and comforting prayers.
There will be a visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016. A funeral mass is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016 at St. Stephens Catholic Church at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Cemetery in Big Spring.
