Darlene Minnie Krueger Read left this earth on February 27, 2016. She was born on Sept. 23, 1931 and was 84 years old when she passed away. Darlene was a faithful Christian and treasured her faith.|
Darlene was born to George and Lydia Krueger on their farm at Mountain Park, Oklahoma. She graduated from Mountain Park High School in 1949. She worked a short time at a bank in Mountain Park. She then worked as a telephone operator for ATT. Before moving to Texas, Darlene lived on a farm in Roosevelt, Okla. with close ties, church, and friends in Hobart. Darlene had five brothers and sisters. Earl and Leon preceded her in death. Ruby (Linn, Miss.), Neal Krueger (Bixby, Okla.), and Edna Gunn (Houston, Texas) survive Darlene. She is also survived by her daughter, Lori Wright (Houston, Texas), and step-children Eddie Read (Spring Branch, Texas) and Mischa Read Harris (Parker, Texas). Also, five step-grandchildren and seven step-great grandchildren survive.
Darlene moved to Coahoma in 1984 from Oklahoma after her marriage to Bill Read in August. Royce Clay, a Church of Christ minister, was instrumental in their meeting and performed the wedding ceremony in Big Spring. Bill had just lost his wife the year before and was very lonely. Darlene came into his life and lit it up again. They shared their life together for 24 years before Bill's death in 2009. They not only became husband and wife but best friends also.
Not often do children get to experience a second wonderful mother that loved them and took fantastic care of their father and loved him to her fullest. It was an honor to care for her in her final days. Mischa's undying dedication, compassion, and love made her the perfect fit to manage Darlene's affairs the final six years of her life. Eddie was kept informed, always loved his step-mother and was present as often as he could be.
A memorial service honoring Darlene will be held on April 2, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Coahoma Church of Christ.
