Efren Nieves Sr., 89, of Big Spring, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Odessa Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Minister Jose R. Martinez, Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness, officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.|
Efren was born Sept. 2, 1925, in Chihuahua, Mexico to Maria (Brito) and Jesus Nieves Sr. He married Vicenta Pena on April 13, 1983 in El Paso, Texas and they relocated to Big Spring in 1985. He was a self-employed carpenter and painter. He enjoyed working on cars, working in his yard and on his home. His most important things in life were his devotion towards the Lord and his family. He was a Christian.
Efren is survived by his wife, Vicenta Nieves of Big Spring; two sons,Jaime Nieves and Ashley Gonzalez and Efren Nieves Jr., and wife, Veronica, all of Big Spring; and one daughter, Lupe Roque and husband, Javier, of El Paso, Texas; his grandchildren; Stephanie Roque, Jocelyne Roque, Celeste Roque, Danica Bishop, Obri Guzman, (his Reyna) Vanae Nieves and Matthew Wood; sister-in-law: Lupe Nieves, her sons, Jesus Nieves Jr. and Dorian Nieves, all of El Paso, Texas.
In addition to his parents, Efren was preceded in death by one brother, Jesus Nieves Jr. and two sisters, Consuelo Acevedo and Luz Nieves.
Pallbearers will be Arthur Palomino, Daniel Thomas, Efren Nieves Jr., Jaime Nieves, Ivan Pina and Ismael Vargas. Honorary pallbearer will be James Phillips.
