Emily Easley, 87, of Big Spring, died Saturday, March 21, 2015 in a local hospital. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 23, 2015 at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Mark Lindsey, officiating.|
She was born Aug. 2, 1927 in Murchison, Texas and married Reagan Easley Aug. 4, 1946 in Tyler, Texas. He preceded her in death Jan. 12, 1980.
Emily graduated from East Texas State University in Commerce. She taught first grade for three years in Malakoff, Texas before moving to Big Spring in 1952. She taught first grade at Kate Morrison Elementary and College Heights Elementary, retiring in May of 1985 after a teaching career of 37 years.
She was a charter member of College Baptist Church, a member of the Retired Teachers Association and was past president of the Women's Forum. Emily was an avid bridge player and loved her family and many friends and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca Dorton and husband, George Napper of Garland, Texas, and Nancy Burton of Grand Prairie, Texas; one grandson, Eric Dorton and wife, Christina of Denton; and two great-grandchildren, Frank Dorton and Gavin Dorton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Riley and Ethel Barnes; one brother, Wayne Barnes; a grandson, John Riley Dorton; and her son-in-law, Greg Burton.
